JICON Curved Flower Plate Medium

Code: Medium Oji Curved Flower Plate (Fuchi-Sabi)
Curved Porcelain Flower Plate with fuchi-sabi detail.

This beautiful white porcelain tableware is designed by OJI Masanori, and made by The Jicon porcelain brand.

JICON was launched when the Touetsugama kiln came into the possession of Japanese designer, OJI Masanori.

OJI Masanori uses a unique technique of oxidation firing at 240 degrees with a special clay mix to create a new 'porcelain white' that is the signature of Jicon. This plate has this beautiful "porcelain white". The accent of rusty brown on the rim is called "Fuchi-Sabi" an ancient Japanese ceramic technique.

The brand name means "porcelain (JI) in modern times (CON)." In the Buddhist words, JICON means "seize the day." It also denotes "porcelain (JI) created by the house of IMAMURA" of the Touetsugama kiln, founded 350 years ago. (Note that "IMA" means "modern times" in Japanese and can be paraphrased as "CON.")

Size: diameter 182mm x height 30mm. Material: White Porcelain Amakusa Touseki (porcelain stone).

The Touetsugama kiln at Jicon originated in Mikawachi of Sasebo City in Nagasaki prefecture as a house kiln under the patronage of the Hirado clan. The kiln was redeployed to Arita in Saga prefecture by IMAMURA Shikao XII for its expansion and is currently succeeded by IMAMURA Kenichi XIV. The kiln makes porcelains for daily life with its traditional white porcelain techniques using Amakusa Touseki (porcelain stone).
